Pollution is one of the major causes of health problems in the world today and many countries are taking steps to tackle this issue. In the UK, the government has announced the clean air initiative, a step in making our air cleaner and reducing the pollution levels of our more populated areas. Alongside new taxes being introduced for new diesel cars, the government is also banning the sale of new petrol and diesel cars in 2040.
This is because currently, diesel cars are the cause of the most amount of nitrogen oxide emissions, shortly followed by vans and HGVs. In an effort to fight high pollution levels in urban areas many cities across the UK have charges in place that occur when you cross into a particular zone. This new initiative is taking this strategy further in order to improve the health levels of the UK’s more populated urban areas.
